An abysmal 10-15 percent of the money that flows into the Clintons’ “charities” goes to the actual causes that “help people.”
The balance goes to first class or private jet travel, cushy accommodations, and fat salaries for people with no former experience in the fields they are working in. So today’s revelations that taxpayers’ money has gone down this rathole are particularly upsetting.
Charity Navigator put the Clinton foundation on its “watch list,” which warns potential donors about investing in problematic charities. The only agenda that organization has is to guide people who want to know how much of what they give goes to the actual causes.
Philanthropic organizations that are really just slush funds create charity fatigue. One can only give so much, therefore donating to an unworthy cause means less for the good ones. And even worse, people get cynical about giving.
All of this is not to mention the very suspicious foreign donations followed by favorable/profitable U.S. policy reversals by then Secy. of State Clinton as outlined in Peter Schweitzer’s new book, Clinton Cash. That’s another story… Suffice it to say that many of the donors rarely or never gave to charities, then suddenly became generous right before matters relating to them were up for consideration, and miraculously, gained fortunes after making donations to the Clinton “charities.” Read more here.
The Obama Administration’s latest gift to the former IRS tax-exempt chief came recently when U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Ron Machen informed the House of Representatives that he would not file charges on its formal contempt citation against Ms. Lerner. This absolution, which shields Ms. Lerner from a grand jury probe, came on Mr. Machen’s final day on the job…
The House on May 7, 2014 held her in contempt of Congress and sent the citation to Mr. Machen.
The law clearly explains that the U.S. Attorney’s only “duty” “shall be” to “bring the matter before the grand jury for its action.” Mr. Machen instead sat on the contempt citation for 11 months, and on March 31 sent Speaker John Boehner a letter explaining he’d unilaterally decided not to investigate Ms. Lerner…
…the job of making these legal calls belonged to a grand jury—not Mr. Machen.
Good soldiers in the Obama administration don’t get indicted, thanks to other good soldiers.
And no doubt they get rewarded, too. As a commenter to the article wrote:
How convenient! Had Machen not resigned his position, as a presidential appointee he could have been impeached by the same House of Representatives. that was no doubt part of the calculus.
I can’t wait to see what his payoff is going to be.
Timing is everything.
That’s true not only for Machen, but for Obama. Run down the clock, and hope the American people forget. To care, they’d not only have to remember Lois Lerner and what she did, they’d have to learn what Machen did and what it signifies. And then for that to matter at all, they’d have to connect it to not just Holder but to Obama and his possible Democrat successor, and turn against them.
Otherwise, as a very well-known public official once said, what difference does it make?
At the “Empowering Voices” conference (3/20/2015) held by the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood’s Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson was not only given an award by our enemy for his outreach and engagement activities with them – for which DHS brags – he said, at the event, “The reading of the Quran reminded me of two things that MLK said a lot, which are quintessentially American values.”
Secretary Jeh Johnson is the same guy who declared the “War on Terror” over in 2012.
Patrick Moore, founder and former president of Greenpeace, delivers keynote address, “Confessions of a Greenpeace Drop out” at the Ninth International Conference on Climate Change at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on July 8, 2014.
This is a must-see video.
The Earth has been warming very gradually for 300 years, since the Little Ice Age ended, long before heavy use of fossil fuels. Prior to the Little Ice Age, during the Medieval Warm Period, Vikings colonized Greenland and Newfoundland, when it was warmer there than today. And during Roman times, it was warmer, long before fossil fuels revolutionized civilization.
The idea it would be catastrophic if carbon dioxide were to increase and average global temperature were to rise a few degrees is preposterous…
By its constitution, the IPCC has a hopeless conflict of interest. Its mandate is to consider only the human causes of global warming, not the many natural causes changing the climate for billions of years. We don’t understand the natural causes of climate change any more than we know if humans are part of the cause at present. If the IPCC did not find humans were the cause of warming, or if it found warming would be more positive than negative, there would be no need for the IPCC under its present mandate. To survive, it must find on the side of the apocalypse.
The IPCC should either have its mandate expanded to include all causes of climate change, or it should be dismantled.
Climate change has become a powerful political force for many reasons. First, it is universal; we are told everything on Earth is threatened. Second, it invokes the two most powerful human motivators: fear and guilt. We fear driving our car will kill our grandchildren, and we feel guilty for doing it.
Third, there is a powerful convergence of interests among key elites that support the climate “narrative.” There has been no significant warming for 18 years while we have emitted 25 per cent of all the carbon dioxide ever emitted. Environmentalists spread fear and raise donations; politicians appear to be saving the Earth from doom; the media has a field day with sensation and conflict; science institutions raise billions in grants, create whole new departments, and stoke a feeding frenzy of scary scenarios; business wants to look green, and get huge public subsidies for projects that would otherwise be economic losers, such as wind farms and solar arrays. Fourth, the Left sees climate change as a perfect means to redistribute wealth from industrial countries to the developing world and the UN bureaucracy…
We have no proof increased carbon dioxide is responsible for the earth’s slight warming over the past 300 years. There has been no significant warming for 18 years while we have emitted 25 per cent of all the carbon dioxide ever emitted. Carbon dioxide is vital for life on Earth and plants would like more of it. Which should we emphasize to our children?
Seems like we’re making that up to make a point about amnesty, right?
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest confirmed Monday that President Obama is “very interested” in the idea of raising taxes through unilateral executive action.
“The president certainly has not indicated any reticence in using his executive authority to try and advance an agenda that benefits middle class Americans,” Earnest said in response to a question about Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) calling on Obama to raise more than $100 billion in taxes through IRS executive action.
Obama would not be the first president to try to establish tax policy through executive order. Our Grand Hero of the Depression, FDR, tried to tax people at a top marginal rate of 100% (yes, 100%) by executive order. Historian Burton Folsom explains that FDR “issued an executive order to tax all income over $25,000 at the astonishing rate of 100 percent. Congress later repealed the order, but still allowed top incomes to be taxed at a marginal rate of 90 percent.”
The rationale was the rationale always used by government to infringe on your liberties in jaw-dropping ways: We’re at war, don’t you know.
As Allahpundit notes in his post on this, Obama won’t tax the middle class with this tactic. He’ll restrict the action to corporate taxes — since, as we all know, corporate taxes are paid only by corporations, and are not passed on to consumers.
(If you are rolling your eyes at that last sentence, you’re my kind of reader!)
…the key bit comes at 1:10:45 below. Look at it from O’s perspective: If you’re going to steal lawmaking power from Congress on an important issue like immigration, why wouldn’t you also steal power on an issue like taxes that’s at the very core of the liberal agenda? Not only have Republicans in Congress failed to stop his earlier power grabs, they’ve actively humiliated themselves in trying. It’s pure win for the White House. And success, as the saying goes, breeds success.
